NOTE:This is a reply to Sewall's essay, which was printed 16 Jan. 1775 in the Mass. Gazette and Boston Post-Boy (see JA, Novanglus, p. 173–178); it was apparently unpublished but follows logically JA's essay in the Boston Gazette and Country Journal, 17 April 1775 (see JA, Works, 2:405)

Precise relationship of this fragment and the 2 in Paine Papers remains to be worked out.
