Original paper slip text:[1782-1783] "Tuesday 2 o'clock"
2 p.
- Requests JA to call this afternoon, "on a matter of importance which has this moment occurred."
- Note addressed to JA at the Hotel du Roi, which served as JA's quarters during the peace negotiations. Jay and JA met regularly in Oct. 1782. On 28 Oct. they met for three hours. On 29 Oct., a Tuesday, Br. peace negotiator Richard Oswald told Jay that Henry Strachey had arrived with new Br. positions on the western boundary issue. Jay met with Strachey and later with JA on the 29th. (Jay Papers, v.2, 450-51). The note summoning JA at 2 o'clock fits the pattern of events. See Correspondence File: Jay Papers, 17 Jan. 1985
- KRS 28 Jan. 1985
- Redated and moved to [29 Oct. 1782]
