- Note: These answers, together with two more that were not published were written in 1780, [16 June-22 July], and will be published under those dates in JA, Papers, vol. 10. When published in the General Advertiser they were given "false dates," beginning "Paris, Jan. 17, 1782."

A communication from Peter Walne, 11 Nov. 1974, informs us that MSS [i.e. the Department of Manuscripts] has been separated from the BM and now forms a part of the new British Library. Printed in Parker's General Advertiser between 16 Aug. and 26 Dec. 1782 as Nos. 1 through 10, "Letters from a Distinguished American." They were written, and will published, under the dates [16 June-22 July 1780]. The final portions of the published reply, together with unpublished Nos. 11 and 12 (see CDF, [16 June-22 July 1780]) were sent to Edmund Jenings in a letter of 22 July.
