  • Three Lower Counties, 1655-1805, p. 299
  • Reasons: 1. dating - ship USS Saratoga not launched until Apr. 1780; captured the Revolution in Dec. 1780. Hence date of 1780 is an inadvertance. 2. Identity of recipient - definitely not JA, because the prize was brought to Lewes, Delaware for disposition by the agent there. His name may have been John Adams, or it may not. In any case, there is no possibility that it could have been JA. (Source: Dictionary of Amer. Fighting Ships, "Saratoga" sloop)
