Collection Summary

Abstract

This collection consists of the diaries of George R. Nutter, a prominent Boston attorney, kept from 1 Jan. 1905 - 30 Aug. 1936. The diaries, also used as scrapbooks, contain clippings, theater programs, and misc. letters and invitations, and describe Nutter's legal cases, and his extensive involvement in several organizations, including the Good Government Association, the Boston Chamber of Commerce, and the Boston Bar Association. Other topics include national, state, and local politics, in particular World War I; the Harvard University Class of 1885 of which he was a member; and the nomination of Louis D. Brandeis, Nutter's law partner, for the Supreme Court.
